Camping Tips for Beginners

Comment First

Going camping is something that many hundreds of thousands of people around the world enjoy every year, but for some it’s more of a mystery. After all, most people live in houses or flats, so why trade that for a temporary home that’s made of waterproof material instead of bricks and mortar? Okay, so the main selling points of camping probably don’t appeal to everyone, and that’s fine, because escaping from your home life with all its home comforts, such as warmth, electricity and hot water really can make some people feel very uncomfortable. But if this isn’t a problem, and you still want to try camping for the very first time, here are some tips that will help you ease yourself into your camping experience.

Go With a Group of People

Camping on your own will be very lonely, so if you’re a parent, take your family, and if you don’t have children see if you can get a group of friends together for a camping weekend. Remember that some campsites won’t have access to electricity, so don’t bother taking along electrical items like hairdryers and iPods, because you’ll have nowhere to plug them into.

Rent or Buy?

If you want to go camping you’ll need a tent, and you can usually pick up one that’s quite cheap from a camping shop. But if it’s your first time camping, or if you need quite a big tent to accommodate you and your companions, then buying one probably isn’t the best idea. You may also need a camping stove and other camping accessories, so it may be worth your while looking into camping equipment hire, where you can hire the equipment you need for a set period of time, which will cost you substantially less than buying camping equipment outright.

Be Realistic

It’s best to ease yourself into camping slowly, with a long weekend break as opposed to a full-on two week holiday. Remember that the constraints of camping may come as a shock for people who are used to having all their home comforts nearby, so try to make yourself and your companions as comfortable as possible.

Look Into Alternatives

If you want to experience the great outdoors without a tent, then look into other alternatives such as hiring a campervan for your vacation. They come in a number of different designs and sizes so they can accommodate a number of travelers. Many companies offer them for hire, and some are even decorated with bright colors and wacky designs – so you’ll stand out on the camping site.
